π‘ EDGAR: filling the gap between 13Fs
The Distance score is built from Form 13F β the quarterly report every large U.S. institution files with the SEC on EDGAR. It is the only complete picture of what superinvestors own, but it is a snapshot with a built-in delay. EDGAR itself carries faster filings that narrow the gap.

Jun 30 β the snapshot date of the holdings.
+45 days β managers must file by mid-August.
Just before the next filing, the data can be ~135 days old.
What the 13F gives us
Every position, every manager, one consistent date per quarter. That completeness is why the Distance score, the holder lists and the quarter-over-quarter trend are built on it β nothing else covers the whole panel.
What EDGAR adds between 13Fs
Form 13D / 13G: anyone who crosses 5% ownership of a company must disclose within days β new big stakes, stake increases and exits show up here months before the next 13F.
Form 3 / 4 / 5: insiders and 10%+ owners report their trades within two business days. Panel managers appear here when they take board-level stakes.
Berkshire's Q2 2026 13F (Jun 30) showed 12,366,349 Lennar shares. On Sep 21, 2026 its Form 3 revealed ~21.5M shares β about +9.1M shares (+74%) added during Q3, visible ~2 months before the Q3 13F deadline. Moves like this are exactly what the EDGAR layer exists to catch.
What you see in the product
Reports carry a separate EDGAR-signals group: filings by panel managers about that stock since the last 13F snapshot, each with its date and a link to the SEC filing. A weekly watch scans the whole panel's filings so big moves surface fast.
The honest limit
Moves below the 5% line, and ordinary portfolio trading, stay invisible until the next 13F. That is set by law β there is no legal real-time feed of other managers' portfolios. EDGAR narrows the gap for the moves that matter most; it does not remove it.
